    Summary

This retrospective study analyzed 512 rhytidectomy surgeries, finding that a sequential, two-stage approach improved results, especially with platysmal-superficial musculoaponeurotic system flaps. Most patients were treated as outpatients with few complications.

    Area of Science:

    • Plastic Surgery
    • Facial Rejuvenation Surgery

    Background:

    • Rhytidectomy (facelift) is a common procedure for facial aging.
    • Surgical techniques continue to evolve to optimize outcomes and patient safety.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the outcomes and complications of a specific rhytidectomy technique.
    • To analyze the impact of incorporating platysmal-superficial musculoaponeurotic system flaps.

    Main Methods:

    • Retrospective analysis of 512 rhytidectomy surgeries performed by a single surgeon.
    • Review of surgical techniques, patient management (outpatient vs. inpatient), and drain usage.
    • Statistical analysis of results and complications.

    Main Results:

    • The sequential, two-stage rhytidectomy technique was predominantly used.
    • Incorporation of platysmal-superficial musculoaponeurotic system flaps correlated with improved aesthetic results.
    • Most patients were managed as outpatients, and drain use was minimal.

    Conclusions:

    • The sequential, two-stage rhytidectomy approach, particularly with platysmal-superficial musculoaponeurotic system flap integration, yields favorable outcomes.
    • Outpatient management and limited drain use are feasible and effective for many rhytidectomy patients.
    • The study contributes to the understanding of surgical philosophy and outcomes in facial rejuvenation.
