    Summary

    Background:

    • Vesicocolic fistula, a complication of diverticular disease, typically requires extensive bowel resection and bladder repair.
    • Conventional treatment involves significant surgical intervention, carrying potential morbidity.

    Observation:

    • Three cases of vesicocolic fistula secondary to diverticular disease were treated with a modified surgical technique.
    • This approach involved separation of viscera, direct suture of defects, and interposition of a greater omental graft between the rectum and bladder.

    Findings:

    • Two out of three patients experienced successful outcomes, remaining well at 12 and 26 months post-surgery.
    • The third patient succumbed to a diverticular disease complication one year after the procedure.

    Implications:

    • This less invasive surgical method may offer an alternative for managing vesicocolic fistulas.
    • Further research is warranted to evaluate the long-term efficacy and safety of omental graft interposition in these cases.
