    Background:

    • Cattle tick (Boophilus microplus) infestations cause significant economic losses in cattle production worldwide.
    • Genetic resistance in cattle is a key strategy for sustainable tick control.
    • Bovine lymphocyte antigens (BoLA) play a role in immune responses, potentially influencing disease resistance.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To determine if specific bovine lymphocyte antigens are associated with resistance or susceptibility to the cattle tick Boophilus microplus.
    • To evaluate the strength of these associations in a mixed-breed cattle population.

    Main Methods:

    • Nineteen bovine lymphocyte antigens were tested in 199 3/4 Brahman 1/4 Shorthorn cattle.
    • Cattle tick resistance was previously established through clinical trials.
