Abstract:
Implantation of a commercially available silicone balloon permits continuous weight reduction without metabolic derangement in patients with excessive overweight. Dangers of surgical treatment of obesity can thus be avoided. In addition, balloon-induced weight reduction is suitable for preparation of severely obese patients with abdominal wall hernias requiring surgery for this intervention.
