[Toxicity of asperase, an enzymatic substance with proteolytic action]

Asperase is a relatively safe substance on peroral administration to mice and rats, moderately toxic upon intraperitoneal injection into rats. Subcutaneous injection of asperase brings about a 10-times lesser toxic effect as compared to intramuscular injection. As regards the toxicity asperase (single intraperitoneal and intravenous injections) does not differ from trypsin. Asperase toxicity is the consequence of an active protein contained by it.
