    Large doses of Rh-positive red blood cells are more effective for primary Rh immunization. Frozen washed cells in larger quantities (200.0 ml) yielded a 93% response rate, compared to smaller doses (43%).

    Background:

    • Rh immunization is a critical concern in transfusion medicine.
    • Understanding optimal methods for inducing an immune response is essential for managing Rh incompatibility.
    • Previous studies have explored various red blood cell preparations for immunization.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To compare the efficacy of different doses and preparations of red blood cells for primary Rh immunization.
    • To evaluate the response rates associated with frozen washed cells versus fresh washed cells.
    • To determine the optimal dosage for inducing a primary Rh immune response.

    Main Methods:

    • Three groups of men received different red blood cell preparations for primary Rh immunization.
    • Group I received varying doses (0.5-20 ml) of frozen washed red blood cells.
    • Group II received a large dose (200.0 ml) of frozen red cell concentrate.
