    Background:

    • Neurofibromas are common tumors affecting nerve sheaths.
    • Their cellular origins are not fully understood.
    • Previous studies suggest Schwann cell involvement.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the cellular composition of neurofibromas.
    • To identify specific cellular structures within these tumors.
    • To elucidate the histogenesis of neurofibromas.

    Main Methods:

    • Light microscopy of four neurofibroma samples.
    • Electron microscopy for ultrastructural analysis.
    • Histological examination of cellular components.

    Main Results:

    • Whorled structures, similar to tactile corpuscles, were consistently observed.
    • Ultrastructural analysis revealed these structures are mainly composed of perineurial cells.
    • Central cores contained axons or Schwann cells, some unassociated with axons.

    Conclusions:

    • Findings support the role of perineurial cells in neurofibroma formation.
    • Both perineurial and Schwann cells contribute to neurofibroma histogenesis.
    • This study enhances understanding of neurofibroma cellular origins.
