    Summary

    Dendriform pulmonary ossification, a rare lung condition, is linked to chronic fibrosing interstitial pneumonia. This study suggests it may be a complication of this inflammatory lung disease.

    Background:

    • Dendriform pulmonary ossification is a rare finding in lung tissue.
    • Chronic fibrosing interstitial pneumonia is a significant lung disease.

    Observation:

    • Postmortem roentgenography of isolated lungs revealed four cases of dendriform pulmonary ossification.
    • Pathoanatomical examination showed evidence of chronic fibrosing interstitial pneumonia in all cases.
    • Microscopy demonstrated a transition from proliferating connective tissue to osseous structures.

    Findings:

    • Dendriform pulmonary ossification was associated with chronic fibrosing interstitial pneumonia.
    • The bone structures showed some analogy to interstitial connective tissue patterns.
    • A direct topographical correlation between ossified structures and vascular elements was not definitively established.

    Implications:

    • Dendriform pulmonary ossification may represent a rare complication or manifestation of chronic fibrosing interstitial pneumonia.
    • Further research is needed to elucidate the precise mechanisms and clinical significance of this condition.
