    Summary

    Platelet-activating factor (PAF-acether) is formed by rabbit platelets stimulated by thrombin or collagen. This suggests PAF-acether mediates platelet aggregation independent of ADP and thromboxane A2.

    Background:

    • Platelet-activating factor (PAF-acether) is a phospholipid analogue.
    • PAF-acether induces platelet aggregation independently of ADP and thromboxane A2 (TxA2).
    • Initially identified as secreted by rabbit basophils during immune responses.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate whether rabbit platelets can form PAF-acether.
    • To determine if platelet agonists that induce aggregation independently of ADP and TxA2 can trigger PAF-acether formation.
