    Summary

    Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) drives thyroid growth after surgery. Temporary increases in TSH, within normal limits, are key to thyroid recuperation and goiter development.

    Background:

    • Euthyroid goiter pathogenesis is often TSH-dependent, yet elevated serum TSH is rarely observed.
    • Understanding early thyroid growth events is crucial for thyroid disease research.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the role of TSH in early thyroid growth following hemithyroidectomy.
    • To analyze thyroid function dynamics in euthyroid patients after partial thyroid removal.

    Main Methods:

    • Studied thyroid function in eight euthyroid patients undergoing hemithyroidectomy.
    • Monitored serum T4 and TSH levels, and TSH response to TRH preoperatively and at multiple time points postoperatively (2 days to 36 months).

    • Serum T4 decreased within the euthyroid range 30-90 days postoperatively.
