    Summary

    Hydatidiform mole patients show high levels of beta-hCG, FSH, LH, and prolactin in hydatid vesicle fluid. Aberrant LH-RF control may cause elevated LH, contributing to disease characteristics.

    Background:

    • Hydatidiform mole is a gestational trophoblastic disease.
    • Hormonal imbalances are implicated in its pathogenesis.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To measure hormone concentrations in hydatid vesicle fluid from patients with hydatidiform mole.
    • To investigate potential hormonal mechanisms underlying hydatidiform mole.

    Main Methods:

    • Radioimmunoassay was used to quantify beta-hCG, FSH, LH, and PRL.
    • Samples were obtained from the serious fluid of hydatid vesicles in 27 patients.

    Main Results:

    • All four hormones (beta-hCG, FSH, LH, PRL) were found in high concentrations in all samples.
    • Mean concentrations: beta-hCG (710.8 ± 100.8 i.u./1 × 10⁻³), FSH (13.8 ± 0.3 i.u./1), LH (302.2 ± 34.5 i.u./1 × 10⁻³), PRL (2610.8 ± 562.1 m-i.u./1).

    • Elevated levels of beta-hCG, FSH, LH, and PRL are characteristic of hydatidiform mole.
    • Abnormalities in luteinizing hormone-releasing factor (LH-RF) regulation may lead to chronically elevated LH, contributing to the disease.
