    Background:

    • Essential hypertension is a prevalent condition requiring effective management strategies.
    • The hypotensive effects of exercise are of significant interest for non-pharmacological interventions.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the immediate blood pressure-lowering effects of a moderate exercise protocol in men with essential hypertension compared to healthy controls.
    • To assess the duration and magnitude of post-exercise hypotension.

    Main Methods:

    • Ten men with essential hypertension and ten age/weight-matched controls underwent a structured treadmill exercise protocol.
    • Exercise consisted of five 10-minute bouts at a target heart rate of 120 bpm, interspersed with rest periods.
    • Blood pressure was monitored during exercise and for 30 minutes of quiet sitting post-exercise.
