    Summary

    Medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) increased exercise ventilation in males but did not affect maximal exercise performance. This suggests progesterone may influence respiratory responses to exercise differently in males and females.

    Background:

    • Medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) is a synthetic progestin.
    • Hormonal fluctuations can influence physiological responses to exercise.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the effects of MPA on exercise performance in males.
    • To compare exercise ventilatory responses in males treated with MPA to female responses during the menstrual cycle.
