    Summary

    Erectile impotence in young men may be linked to lower luteinizing hormone (LH) levels. Unlike healthy controls, impotent men showed no significant testosterone increase during REM sleep.

    Background:

    • Erectile impotence affects physically healthy young males.
    • Nocturnal penile tumescence is a key indicator of erectile function.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate hormonal profiles during sleep in impotent men compared to controls.
    • To explore the relationship between sleep stages, penile tumescence, and reproductive hormones.

    Main Methods:

    • Polysomnography with continuous monitoring of EEG, eye movements, and penile tumescence.
    • Frequent blood sampling (every 20 minutes) for luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and testosterone via radioimmunoassay.
