Does hyperimmunoglobulinemia-E protect tropical populations from allergic disease?
The Waorani people have high immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels but rare allergies. Their skin cells can still be sensitized to pollen, suggesting high IgE doesn't block all allergic responses.
