    Summary

    Trichloroethylene (TCE) exposure in women working with industrial solvents significantly slowed reaction times. Effects were more pronounced in environments with higher TCE levels exceeding safety limits.

    Background:

    • Trichloroethylene (TCE) is a widely used industrial solvent.
    • Potential neurotoxic effects of TCE exposure are a concern in occupational settings.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the impact of TCE exposure on cognitive function, specifically reaction time, in female industrial workers.
    • To assess the relationship between TCE exposure levels and the severity of cognitive effects.

    Main Methods:

    • Eight-choice reaction time tests were administered to women exposed to TCE.
    • Simultaneous tests were conducted on a control group of unexposed subjects.
    • Exposure levels were monitored and compared against recommended Threshold Limit Values (TLV).

    • Women exposed to TCE exhibited a significant increase in choice reaction time compared to controls.
