[Mitotic index in corneal epithelium during injury of tissues with different proliferative activities]

It has been shown in rat experiments that injuries to the skin, muscles and submaxillary gland produce a distant stimulation of proliferation in the corneal epithelium. This phenomen is reliably reproducible in repeated experiments and seems likely to be associated with production of nonspecific mitogenic substances.
