    Background:

    • Volatile fatty acids (VFAs) are key energy sources for ruminants, produced by microbial fermentation in the rumen.
    • Understanding VFA absorption is crucial for optimizing dairy cow diets and energy utilization.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To quantify the net absorption of volatile fatty acids in nonlactating Holstein cows.
    • To determine the contribution of absorbed VFAs to the total energy balance of the cows.
