    Summary

    A rare genetic disorder, trichoodontodermal dysplasia, affects seven individuals from three Lebanese families. This previously undescribed condition is likely caused by an autosomal recessive gene.

    Background:

    • Ectodermal dysplasias are a group of genetic disorders affecting ectodermal structures.
    • Inbred populations can exhibit higher prevalence of autosomal recessive conditions.

    Observation:

    • Seven individuals across three Lebanese sibships presented with a distinct set of symptoms.
    • The affected individuals displayed characteristics of a previously undocumented ectodermal dysplasia.

    Findings:

    • A novel syndrome, termed trichoodontodermal dysplasia, was identified.
    • The condition is hypothesized to result from the homozygous expression of an autosomal recessive gene.

    Implications:

    • This discovery expands the known spectrum of ectodermal dysplasias.
