    Background:

    • Sleep quality is crucial for overall health.
    • Ambient temperature is a known environmental factor influencing sleep.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the effect of varying ambient temperatures on Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep characteristics.
    • To determine if temperature influences REM sleep duration, period, or latency.

    Main Methods:

    • Five young adult males participated in the study.
    • Participants slept for two consecutive nights under five different ambient temperatures (13°C, 16°C, 19°C, 22°C, 25°C).
    • Bedding and other environmental factors were kept constant.

    Main Results:

    • A significant decrease in average REM sleep cycle length was observed as ambient temperature increased from 13°C to 25°C.
    • No significant differences were found in total REM sleep duration, average REM period, or REM sleep latency across the tested temperatures.

    Conclusions:

    • Ambient temperature significantly affects REM sleep cycle length in young adult males.
    • Sleep environment temperature, specifically within a common range, may not influence other key REM sleep parameters.
