    Summary

    Researchers investigated haptoglobin (Hp) types in ovarian cancer and nonmalignant ovarian tumors. A significant increase in the Hp1 gene frequency was observed in both patient groups compared to the normal population.

    Background:

    • Haptoglobin (Hp) is a plasma protein involved in hemoglobin binding.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the distribution of haptoglobin types in patients with ovarian cancer and nonmalignant ovarian tumors.
    • To compare Hp type frequencies between pathological ovarian conditions and a normal population.

    Main Methods:

    • Haptoglobin phenotyping was performed on serum samples.
    • Patient cohorts included 132 ovarian cancer cases and 114 nonmalignant ovarian tumor cases.
