    Background:

    • The role of circulating immune complexes in IgA nephropathy (Berger's disease) pathogenesis remains debated.
    • Previous detection methods were limited, primarily identifying IgG- or IgM-containing complexes, missing potential IgA involvement.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the presence and role of IgA-containing circulating immune complexes (CIC) in IgA nephropathy patients.
    • To correlate CIC presence with disease stage and renal biopsy findings.

    Main Methods:

    • Serum samples from 12 IgA nephropathy patients were analyzed for IgA-CIC using a sensitive Raji cell radioimmunoassay.
    • IgG- or IgM-CIC were detected using Raji cell IgG assay and 125I-C1q binding assay.
    • IgA subclass analysis (IgA1 vs. IgA2) was performed on renal biopsy specimens from five patients.
