    Summary

Femoral artery reconstructions using bypasses showed good patency rates. Autogenous vein grafts are recommended for isolated artery segments in patients with combined femoral and peripheral vascular occlusions.

    Area of Science:

    • Vascular Surgery
    • Reconstructive Surgery

    Background:

    • Combined femoral and peripheral vascular occlusions present complex surgical challenges.
    • Reconstruction of the femoral artery is crucial for limb salvage.

    Observation:

    • 240 femoral artery reconstructions were performed in 26 patients over 4.5 years.
    • Bypasses utilized segments of the popliteal or tibial artery.
    • No operative mortality was observed.

    Findings:

    • Mean follow-up was 13 months.
    • 18 bypasses remained patent (2 patients died with open bypass).
    • 7 bypasses occluded (3 patients died).

    Implications:

    • Exploration of isolated artery segments is vital.
