    Summary

    Vibration therapy can increase tactile threshold, reducing hypersensitivity in hands. This effect, observed in healthy adults, lasts for at least 10 minutes after treatment.

    Background:

    • Tactile hypersensitivity is a frequent complication following hand injuries.
    • Clinical use of vibration aims to alleviate tactile hypersensitivity.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the effect of vibration on tactile threshold.
    • To determine the duration of vibration's effect on tactile threshold.

    Main Methods:

    • 24 healthy adults participated, with tactile thresholds measured using a pressure aesthesiometer.
    • An experimental group received 10 minutes of vibration, while a control group rested.
    • Tactile thresholds were reassessed immediately after treatment/rest and at 5-minute intervals for 20 minutes.

    Main Results:

    • The experimental group exhibited a significant increase in tactile threshold post-vibration (p < .001).
    • This significant effect persisted for 5 minutes (p < .001) and 10 minutes (p < .05) but diminished by 15-20 minutes.
    • No significant changes in tactile threshold were observed in the control group.

    Conclusions:

    • Vibration effectively increases tactile threshold in healthy individuals.
    • The tactile threshold elevation induced by vibration persists for a minimum of 10 minutes.
    • Findings suggest potential clinical applications for vibration in managing tactile hypersensitivity.
