    Summary

    Chronic psychogenic polydipsia can cause urinary tract abnormalities. Five of ten patients with low urine specific gravity experienced issues like hydronephrosis and renal failure.

    Background:

    • Chronic psychogenic polydipsia is characterized by excessive water intake.
    • Low urine specific gravity is a key indicator of diluted urine.

    Observation:

    • This study observed 10 patients with chronic psychogenic polydipsia and low urine specific gravity.
    • Urinary tract abnormalities were assessed in these patients.

    Findings:

    • Five out of ten patients exhibited urinary tract abnormalities.
    • Abnormalities ranged from bladder dysfunction (large bladder, postvoid residuals) to severe renal damage (hydronephrosis, renal back pressure atrophy, renal failure).

    Implications:

    • Chronic polydipsia may lead to significant urological and renal complications.
    • Early detection and management of polydipsia are crucial to prevent severe urinary tract damage.
