    Summary

    Motor neuron abnormalities are key in Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). In a DMD patient with arm injury, motor neurons showed preserved sprouting and muscle fibers retained reinnervation capacity, suggesting potential for recovery.

    Background:

    • Motor neuron abnormalities are implicated in Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) pathogenesis.
    • Limited evidence exists on how injury affects motor neurons in human DMD patients.

    Observation:

    • A DMD patient presented with obstetric paresis in the left arm.
    • Electromyography (EMG) and muscle histochemistry were performed on the affected arm.

    Findings:

    • The patient's left arm showed signs of reinnervation alongside myopathy.
    • This indicates that motor neurons in DMD retain the capacity for sprouting.
    • Muscle fibers in DMD patients can still accept reinnervation.

    Implications:

    • Motor neurons in DMD are not fully compromised by the disease.
    • Preserved sprouting and reinnervation capability suggest potential therapeutic targets.
    • Further research into enhancing these mechanisms could improve DMD patient outcomes.
