    Summary

    Thick-walled kidney cysts can mimic benign conditions on imaging. However, these lesions must be presumed malignant and surgically treated until definitively proven otherwise.

    • The tumor exhibited imaging characteristics indistinguishable from benign multicystic renal disease on both ultrasound and computed tomography scans.

    Findings:

    • Cystic renal cell carcinoma can present with imaging features mimicking benign multicystic renal disease.
    • The presence of thick-walled cystic lesions in the kidney warrants high suspicion for malignancy.

    Implications:

    • Radiological features alone are insufficient to rule out malignancy in cystic renal lesions.
    • Surgical intervention is often necessary for definitive diagnosis and treatment of potentially malignant cystic kidney masses.
