    Background:

    • A 74-year-old woman presented with dyspnea and cough, indicative of a lung mass present for 18 months.
    • A primary chondrosarcoma of the right main bronchus was diagnosed.
    • The patient underwent a successful pneumonectomy for tumor removal.

    Findings:

    • The patient remains well with no evidence of tumor recurrence 16 months post-surgery.
    • This case adds to the limited literature, with only eight established cases of primary pulmonary chondrosarcoma and four of tracheobronchial origin previously reported.
    • The long preoperative history and favorable outcome suggest a less aggressive behavior of tracheobronchial chondrosarcomas.

    Implications:

    • This case contributes to understanding the clinical behavior and management of rare tracheobronchial tumors.
    • It underscores the importance of accurate tumor localization (lung vs. tracheobronchial tree) for predicting patient outcomes.
    • Further research into primary pulmonary and tracheobronchial chondrosarcomas is warranted to improve diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
