Is there really sphincter spasm in anal fissure?

To assess sphincter function in patients with anal fissure, anal manometry has been performed in ten patients. Anal resting pressure was increased, but both sphincters functioned normally. The increased anal resting pressure was neither due to internal nor to external sphincter spasm.
