    Background:

    • Choroid plexus papillomas are tumors arising from the choroid plexus epithelium.
    • Distinguishing between benign and malignant forms can be challenging, particularly with poorly differentiated biopsy samples.

    Observation:

    • Electron microscopy was used to examine biopsy material from two cases of malignant choroid plexus papilloma.
    • Tumors exhibited poorly differentiated areas with high mitotic activity.

    Findings:

    • Despite malignant features, both cases retained characteristic ultrastructural elements of normal choroid plexus.
    • Observed features included cilia, microvilli, continuous basement membrane, and fenestrated capillary endothelium.

    Implications:

    • These ultrastructural findings can assist in identifying the choroid plexus as the origin of malignant tumors.
    • This is particularly valuable when light microscopy of poorly differentiated samples provides diagnostic uncertainty.
