Comparative pO2 histograms and other parameters in canine kidneys during perfusion with Oxypherol

Our experiments were performed under the aspect of kidney perfusion in vivo. Our goal was to find a medium which would help preserve the potential donor kidney within the cadaver until the time of explantation. A perfusion medium must be chosen that transports oxygen and releases it in the organ to be preserved, so that the metabolic processes continue without damage to the tissue. From our results we believe that the Oxypherol medium meets these requirements. The measurement of local oxygen pressure by the multiwire surface electrode according to Kessler and Lubbers (1966) gives a reliable parameter for judging organ vitality.
