Favourable course in a case of cancer of the thyroid body
Abstract:
We report an 8 1/2 year old girl with cancer of the thyroid body who had profuse lung metastases on her first admission to hospital. The child was first operated and then treated with radioactive iodine. Six years later, radioactive iodine therapy was carried out again, although there was no longer any cumulation in the metastases even after stimulation with TSH, as the patient was in critical condition. Surprisingly, she recovered and has remained free of subjective symptoms despite persistence of the lung metastases.
