[Impaired tissue requirement for triiodothyronine in lung cancer]

Tissue triiodothyronine concentrations in patients with the "syndrome of low blood--triiodothyronine level" and controls were compared. The former group included 20 patients with chronic nontumor pathology and 30 lung cancer patients. 28 patients with clinically apparent hypothyrosis and 155 healthy subjects with normal thyroid function were in control. Tissues of lung cancer patients were shown to be extremely deficient in triiodothyronine. The importance of this phenomenon is discussed with relation to the role of this hormone in normal function of human body.
