Conflict and stress in nontraditional families: impact on children

Particular stresses and certain kinds of conflict appear to be associated with each of the different family styles under study. Responses to stressful events also differ distinctly by family style. Aspects of children's intellectual performance and social-emotional behavior are negatively affected by stress, but in some types of families children are found to be more buffered than in others.
