The Air Canada programme for rehabilitation of the alcoholic employee/pilot
Aviation, Space, and Environmental Medicine
|July 1, 1983
Abstract:
Pilots drifting toward alcohol abuse are detected earlier than previously possible. This is due mainly to the acceptance of alcoholism as a treatable affliction. The realisation that alcoholic pilots are not automatically dismissed from service encourages staff not to cover up for affected colleagues. A programme of liaison between management, unions, and staff combined with peer pressure is a prerequisite for early detection and counselling of alcoholics.
