[Isolated renal angiomyolipoma. Study of 10 cases]
Abstract:
The authors review 10 cases of isolated renal angiomyolipoma collected from the archives of the Institute of Urology, Nephrology and Andrology, Barcelona, Spain (Fundacion Puigvert) which contain a total of 170,000 records collected between 1930 and 1980. They describe the clinical, laboratory, histopathological and therapeutic characteristics, as well as the course of the cases studied in comparison with parenchymatous renal tumours, angiomyolipomas accounting for 2.07%. The attention of the reader is drawn to the fact that all the cases presented here were of isolated renal angiomyolipomatosis, in the absence of any context of phakomatosis and no possibility of preoperative diagnosis by conventional methods of investigation. It is felt that a preoperative diagnosis would be possible by computed tomography using the scanner by virtue of the adipose content of the angiomyolipoma.
