    Summary

Atherosclerosis and aorto-arteritis commonly affect abdominal aorta branches, often without clear symptoms. Angiography is key for diagnosing these visceral artery conditions.

    Area of Science:

    • Vascular Surgery
    • Diagnostic Imaging

    Background:

    • Visceral artery aneurysms and occlusive diseases pose diagnostic challenges.
    • Understanding the etiology and clinical presentation is crucial for timely intervention.

    Observation:

    • A study of 303 cases revealed atherosclerosis (210) and nonspecific aorto-arteritis (67) as primary causes of visceral artery affection.
    • 190 cases lacked overt occlusive lesion symptoms, highlighting silent disease progression.
    • Abdominal syndrome, including pain, food-associated intestinal dysfunction, and weight loss, was observed in 113 patients.

    Findings:

    • Vascular origin of abdominal symptoms can be suspected based on medical history, epigastric murmurs, and multi-arterial involvement.
    • Angiography is the definitive diagnostic tool for identifying and characterizing visceral branch affections of the abdominal aorta.

    Implications:

    • Early recognition of subtle symptoms and diagnostic imaging are vital for managing visceral artery diseases.
    • Improved diagnostic strategies can lead to better patient outcomes in cases of abdominal aorta pathology.
