    Summary

    This study evaluated three periodontal dressings (PPC, Coe-Pak, Perio Putty) in rats. PPC showed the most severe inflammatory reaction, followed by Coe-Pak, Perio Putty, and Teflon.

    Background:

    • Periodontal dressings are crucial for wound healing post-surgery.
    • Understanding the biocompatibility of different dressings is essential for clinical practice.
    • Previous research has indicated varying tissue responses to periodontal materials.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To histologically assess the subcutaneous tissue response to three periodontal dressings: PPC, Coe-Pak, and Perio Putty.
    • To compare the inflammatory and tissue reaction profiles of these dressings against a Teflon control.
    • To establish an order of decreasing tissue reaction severity among the tested materials.

    Main Methods:

    • Subcutaneous implantation of polyethylene tubes containing Coe-Pak, PPC, Perio Putty, or Teflon in 26 Sprague-Dawley rats.
    • Histological examination of retrieved specimens after 14 days.
    • Evaluation using three scoring systems: overall inflammatory cells, capsule thickness, vascular changes; Inflammatory Index (I.I); and Reaction Spread Index (R.S.I.).
