Abstract:
The various maxillary and other midface advamcement osteotomies have historically been fraught with the menacing complication of relapse. The traditional methods of attempting to compensate for the documented relapse potential incude advancement overcorrection and posterior grafting with freeze-dried bone or autogenous grafts from the iliac crest or rib. A new technique for grafting of advancement procedures with an alloplastic material, Proplast, is presented with a description of the procedure for its use and a discussion of the material's properties, advantages, and disadvantages.
