Background:

Angiotensin-II (A-II) is a key hormone regulating blood pressure and fluid balance.
The dipsogenic (thirst-inducing) effects of A-II are well-documented, but sex-specific differences are less understood.
Hormonal fluctuations, particularly related to the reproductive cycle, may influence A-II's effects.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the dipsogenic effect of Angiotensin-II (A-II) in relation to sex and reproductive status in rats.
To determine if sex hormones modulate the drinking response to A-II.
To explore developmental influences on sex differences in A-II-induced water intake.

Main Methods:

Subcutaneous (SC) administration of Angiotensin-II to male and female rats.
Comparison of water intake between sexes.
Assessment of A-II response in neonatally castrated and androgenized rats.
Observation of A-II response in adult females during different stages of the estrous cycle, specifically proestrus.

Main Results:

Angiotensin-II administration induced significantly greater water intake in females compared to males.
