Retroperistaltism and duodenogastric reflux in dogs
Abstract:
Motility of the antrum, pyloric sphincter, duodenal bulb and proximal duodenum was recorded in unanesthetized dogs. Retroperistaltism and reflux of intestinal contents were regularly produced by apomorphine and occurred often with or without vomiting when large amounts of hydrochloric acid were infused or delivered into the small intestine. Retroperistaltism was found occasionally after intravenous infusion of adrenalin, carbachol or pentagastrin. Reverse peristalsis was characterized by strong and long lasting contractions of the duodenum migrating orad.
