Orbital pseudotumour of dental origin
Abstract:
A case is presented of chronic infra-temporal fossa infection following removal of an upper wisdom tooth, which subsequently developed an orbital pseudotumour. This is thought to be a previously unrecorded complication. Spread is assumed to have occurred via the inferior orbital fissure to the orbit. The common pathways of spread of infection from the fossa are discussed and a brief description of orbital pseudotumours is included. It is hoped to alter the profession to this rare complication and to aid the early diagnosis of the condition, since correct treatment can be dramatic and rewarding.
