    Area of Science:

    • Hematology
    • Pediatric Oncology
    • Pathology

    Background:

    • Congenital leukemia is a rare condition presenting at birth or within the first few months of life.
    • Erythroleukemia is a subtype characterized by proliferation of erythroid precursors.

    Observation:

    • A four-week-old infant presented with papulous skin infiltrations, lethargy, anemia, and bilateral testicular swelling.
    • Diagnostic investigations included bone marrow, cerebrospinal fluid, and skin biopsy.

    Findings:

    • Leukemic infiltration was identified via cytology and cytochemistry.
    • The condition was diagnosed as erythroleukemia at the stage of erythremic myelosis.
    • The infant died 20 days after symptom onset.

    Implications:

    • This case highlights the aggressive nature of congenital erythroleukemia.
    • Early diagnosis and understanding of this rare pediatric malignancy are crucial.
    • Further research into congenital erythroleukemia is warranted due to its rarity.
