    Summary

Percutaneous embolization effectively treated post-traumatic renal hemorrhage in most patients, controlling hematuria and avoiding surgery. This minimally invasive approach offers a definitive therapy for renal trauma.

    Area of Science:

    • Interventional Radiology
    • Nephrology
    • Trauma Surgery

    Background:

    • Post-traumatic renal hemorrhage is a significant clinical challenge.
    • Traditional management often involves surgical intervention, carrying substantial risks.

    Observation:

    • This study reports on 9 patients treated for post-traumatic renal hemorrhage.
    • Percutaneous embolization was employed as the primary treatment modality.

    Findings:

    • Successful hematuria control was achieved in 8 out of 9 patients (89%).
    • One patient required subsequent surgical management.
    • Super-selective renal arterial embolization demonstrated a high success rate.
    • Hypertension was the only noted complication in one patient.

    Implications:

    • Percutaneous embolization is a safe and effective minimally invasive treatment for renal trauma.
    • This technique can obviate the need for major surgery in the majority of cases.
    • Interventional radiology offers a definitive therapeutic option for managing renal hemorrhage.
