    Summary

    Mitral annular calcification (MAC) is often linked to aging and stress on the heart. This study found lower calcium levels in patients with MAC, suggesting metabolic alterations may play a role in its development.

    Background:

    • Mitral annular calcification (MAC) is a common finding in echocardiography.
    • Its association with other cardiac conditions and underlying mechanisms requires further investigation.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To analyze the two-dimensional echocardiographic (2DE) manifestations of MAC.
    • To investigate the relationship between MAC and idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis (IHSS).
    • To explore potential contributing factors to MAC pathogenesis, including age and calcium metabolism.

    Main Methods:

    • Retrospective analysis of 100 patient records with 2DE-diagnosed MAC.
    • Comparison of demographic and clinical data between patients with and without IHSS, and with and without MAC.
