    This study found no evidence of immune system abnormalities in schizophrenia patients. Researchers did not detect antibodies or increased lymphocyte activity, suggesting no detectable immunologic stigmata in the studied individuals.

    Background:

    • Schizophrenia is a complex mental disorder with potential links to immune system dysfunction.
    • Previous research has explored various immunological markers in schizophrenia, with inconsistent findings.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the presence of antibodies against brain extracts and T-cells in schizophrenia patients.
    • To assess in vivo lymphocyte stimulation as a potential indicator of immune activity in schizophrenia.

    Main Methods:

    • Sera from 17 schizophrenia patients were tested for antibodies to human brain extract and Molt cells (a human T-cell line).
    • In vivo lymphocyte stimulation was evaluated by analyzing cell cycle phases (G1, S, G2+M) and 3H-thymidine uptake in peripheral blood lymphocytes.
