    Summary

    Cimetidine, an H2-receptor antagonist, did not affect T cell functions in human lymphocytes. This study found no evidence of Cimetidine enhancing or suppressing cell-mediated immunity in vitro.

    Background:

    • Cimetidine is an H2-receptor antagonist with potential immunomodulatory effects.
    • Previous studies suggested Cimetidine might increase cell-mediated immunity.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the in vitro effects of Cimetidine on human T cell functions.
    • To determine if Cimetidine has immunoproliferative or immunostimulative effects.

    Main Methods:

    • Human peripheral blood lymphocytes were cultured with Cimetidine.
    • Cultures were stimulated with mitogens, alloantigens, and xenoantigens.
    • T cell proliferation and helper/cytotoxic T cell generation were assessed kinetically.
