    Summary

    Urinary estrogen ratios differ due to metabolism, not production rates. Estrogen production levels (estriol, estrone, estradiol) were similar in women with varying urinary ratios and in breast cancer patients compared to controls.

    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate whether differences in urinary estrogen ratios are attributable to production rates or metabolic pathways.
    • To compare estrogen production rates between women with high and low urinary estrogen ratios.
    • To compare estrogen production rates in breast cancer patients versus healthy controls.

    Main Methods:

    • Categorized women (young and postmenopausal) into high and low urinary estrogen ratio groups.
    • Measured circulating levels, metabolic clearance rates, and blood production rates of estriol, estrone, and estradiol.
