Abstract:
The J. S. Marais Surgical Laboratory celebrated its 21st birthday in 1979, but research in the Department had been in progress for more than 40 years. For much of this time, the principal supporter of research in the Department of Surgery was Professor Louw and this short review is offered as part of his Festschrift.
