On-line systems in the information process of INSERM researchers

The process by which biomedical researchers at INSERM search for the information they need in the course of their research work is described from the evidence of a two-part questionnaire-based survey. In particular, the specific problems involved in the use of on-line retrieval systems, such as MEDLINE, are investigated, with a view to improving and expanding the use of such systems. Owing to the very nature of documentation practices, the situation seems likely to evolve towards greater use of these systems in the future, but this evolution will remain slow.
